Abarai Renji. Lieutenant of the 6th Division Squad. He is Rukia's childhood friend before enrolling as a Death God in Seireitei. He was placed in charge of bringing back Rukia from the human world and to exterminate Ichigo. This is because Soul Society finds it unacceptable to lend Death God powers to anyone in the human world without consent. Deep inside, Renji was frustrated when he knew Rukia was sentenced to execution for her crime, and blames it on Ichigo. When Ichigo arrived in Seireitei, Renji took the opportunity to settle scores with Ichigo and battles it out with him. Renji possesses the power of Zabimaru, which is the name of his flexible and deadly Zanpakutou (Soul Slayer Sword).
Kira Izuru. Lieutenant of the 3rd Division Squad. A thin and somewhat neurotic individual, Kira is a good friend of fellow Lieutenants Hinamori and Renji. He seems a decent enough sort, but is also extremely loyal to his captain. This sometimes puts him in difficult positions, where he is forced to choose between loyalty to his captain and loyalty to his friends. During the fight against the Bounto, Kira played a part in infiltrating the Bounto territory, using his Zanpakutou with the ability to double the weight of any object his Zanpakutou cuts.
Matsumoto Rangiku. Lieutenant of the 10th Division Squad. Matsumoto is actually quite a capable and loyal Vice-Captain. She has a good relationship with her Captain, who, despite his seeming annoyance at her sleeping on the couch during working hours, holds great respect and even admiration for her. Besides having some history with Gin, she also accompanied her Captain to the mortal world to join forces with Ichigo in the fight against the Arrancar. Always proud of her assets, Matsumoto never fails to gain the attention of men, especially in Karakura Town.
Ichimaru Gin. Captain of the 3rd Division Squad. He was the very first Captain that Ichigo encountered on entry to Seireitei. His Zanpakutou, named as Shinsou, looks like an ordinary average sword on appearance. However, upon activation of its powers, it is able to shoot a missile-like beam on the latter. Gin used to be Aizen's Lieutenant in the past, and now has proven himself capable to hold the rank of a Captain. Still, Gin holds loyalty to Aizen and being sly and cunning as he is, Gin seems to have other motives than leadings his squad to uphold the laws of Soul Society.
Hitsugaya Toushiro. Captain of the 10th Division Squad. Perhaps the youngest of all the Captains, or even all of Seireitei. With silver hair and a gullible look, Hitsugaya is but a boy genius who made it this far at such an age. He is known as a prodigy in studying shinigami arts, and he is capable of unleashing vast destructive powers of ice. Despite his youth, Hitsugaya is one of the more mature captains, level-headed and perceptive, if a bit lacking in the humour department. Aware of the many strange occurances in Soul Society, Hitsugaya, together with his Lieutenant Matsumoto, revolves around searching out the source of the problems, also lending support against the Bounto and the Arrancar.
Soi Fong. Captain of the 2nd Division Squad, Commander of Covert Operations and Executive Militia. A rather swift fighting Captain, with abilities that can match that of Yoruichi. She is from a lower noble that served the great Shihounin family, and became a comrade of Yoruichi at a young age. In combat, Soi Fong wields Suzumebachi, one of the more unique Zanpakutou, which normally inflicts poison-like attacks. She was also one who defends Seireitei faithfully against the Bounto, and apparently took on one of them by herself.
Zaraki Kenpachi. Captain of the 11th Division Squad. Zaraki seldom adhere to the roles of a Captain. Instead, he who fights for a living, cannot find fun in any other activity except fighting someone who can match his abilities. So far, there is no one able to meet his standards until he met Ichigo, who he saw a vast potential in, and is eager to battle Ichigo so as to satisfy his bloodthirst. Zaraki has such enormous spirit power, that he had to resort to several measures to prevent his spirit powers from overflowing and causing unnecessary damage to anyone or anything. Apart from that, Zaraki does not know his Zanpakutou powers as he only needs to fight with his body spirit powers, yet able to overpower almost anyone.
Aizen Sousuke. Captain of the 5th Division Squad. A rather unassuming individual, but one with great depth. Sousuke is a brilliant thinker and fighter and is respected among the shinigami for his chivalrous demeanour. He acts gently towards his subordinates, particularly Hinamori, his Lieutenant. He recognizes the respect she has for him, and plays along with her hero-worshipping. His Zanpakutou is the devious Kyouka Suigetsu, able to create deception. His outer looks often convince others of his gentleman behaviour, yet it is never too safe to completely trust him.
Kuchiki Byakuya. Captain of the 6th Divison Squad. Born into the noble Kuchiki family and now the head of the family, Byakuya is also Rukia's adoptive brother. He is perpetually cool and collected, appearing emotionless almost all of the time, never seen to either smile or lose his temper. Although Rukia claimed before that Byakuya had never shown her the love of a brother, Byakuya had not commented on it as he often keeps his cards close to his chest. However, later on Byakuya did protect Rukia and even got himself injured. His weapon is the deadly Senbon Zakura, which he wields with suitable elegance to dispatch his foes. His battle abilities are tactical and with his intelligent strategies, Byakuya is often victorious over his opponents hands down.
Kuchiki Rukia. The first Death God who Ichigo had met and then became Ichigo's closest companion at heart. After having transferred her powers to Ichigo, she remained in a gigai as a normal human. She was the one who taught Ichigo many things about Soul Society and the Death God customs, while on the other hand, learnt many interesting human traits while in her body form in the mortal world. She is the only one who understands Ichigo the most, and proves to be a very important support for Ichigo's striving battles and the hardships they face together.
Innoue Orihime. One of Ichigo's classmates who has a very big crush on him, but is afraid to act on it. She lost her brother in a car accident many years ago, and he came back as a hollow to eat her soul. After being in contact with Ichigo's shinigami form, her spiritual power was awakened. Innoue's powers involves the use of pixies to form protective shields and healing powers that rejuvenates the dying back to their original state. She also has an offensive ability which can slice opponents at dire speed. Her abilities give her the confidence to travel with Ichigo through the dangers in Soul Society. 
Sado Yasutora. Also nicknamed as "Chad". He is as young as Ichigo but has a huge hulk looking body. Before his spiritual powers were tapped, Sado seems to be incredibly strong who does not seem to get easily injured even after being knocked by a vehicle. The threat of Hollows awakened Sado's powers of having a weird-looking right arm which is capable of dishing out overwhelming blows. Seeing that his right arm holds such power, Sado uses it to battle alongside Ichigo against the onslaught of the Hollows.
Ishida Uryuu. He belongs to a group known as the Quincy. The Quincy's objective is in a way similiar to Death Gods, seeking Hollows and purging them from the human world. The only difference is that while Death Gods purify Hollows so that the Hollow will return to Soul Society as a normal soul, the Quincy destroys the Hollows completely. Such will cause the upset in the balance of souls in Soul Society and the human world. Due to this fact, a conflict arose in the past and the Quincy were wiped out. Ishida, being the last Quincy, had to abandon his old grudges against the Death Gods if he were to save the world from Hollows.
Urahara Kisuke. This is the manager of the Uraha shop, who has an unshaven face and wears a beach hat most of the time. He cares alot about the reputation of the shop and tries his best to provide his costomers with the products that they want. When he realizes the mistake he made in giving Rukia a mod soul, he descides he will fix the problem himself. When Ichigo lost his 'borrowed' Death God powers from Rukia, Urahara seems to have shown that he himself possess some sort of Death God powers, but that will remain as a mystery till the later parts.
